About
this Mass Media class: The notice on the
shelf in the bookstore said they should have used copies too—and a used copy
would cost almost fifty dollars less than a new one—but I saw only new copies
on the shelf. So I got a new copy, and the
bookstore was going to give me a heads up when they got a used copy, and I was
going to go back and exchange … and the deadline to exchange was yesterday, and
they didn’t get a used copy yet, which is why I’m almost fifty dollars deeper in
the hole L
Yesterday
in class, we hit the following seven things from chapter one: mass communication, culture, technological
determinism, media literacy (incl. Silverblatt’s seven-point programme), genre,
production values, and The Gutenberg Galaxy.
Other
than that, David Bowie died last Sunday—und noch desselben Tages empfing eine
respektvoll erschütterte Welt die Nachricht von seinem Tode—and we watched one
of his music videos in class yesterday, and we pointed out stuff about (a) the
audio, (b) the visual, and (c) the narrative.
